About 25% of all violence is considered a "hidden crime" in Portsmouth.
Hidden violence is crime or behaviour where people who experience it are less likely to report it - whether it be to the police or other agencies.
This may be because of fear of repercussions, previous bad experience, not thinking it is worth it or a variety of other reasons.
We believe the only way to truly tackle hidden violenece and abuse is through effective partnership working. That's why in 2009/10 hidden violence partners from the council, police, fire service and probation co-located to one office to create a community safety hub in the heart of Portsmouth.
The issue is broken down into three areas:
Domestic abuse
Sexual violence
Hate crime
