Theft covers a variety of crimes such as domestic burgulary, robbery, theft from a motor vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle and shoplifting. This crime type is closely linked with our top 4 priorities: alcohol misuse; drug misuse; young people and adult re-offending.
We have worked very hard over the last few years to reduce theft in the city and as a result domestic burgulary, theft from a motor vehicle and theft of a motor vehicle have reduced significantly.
In 2010, domestic burglary reduced by 10%, theft from a motor vehicle reduced by 12% and theft of a motor vehicle reduced by 32%.
Despite these reductions, theft remains a priority for the Police and the Safer Portsmouth Partnership with shoplifting accounting for almost 15% of all crime in the city.
