Shoplifting Can Ruin Your Life

dvd_Front_cover_small_res.jpgSafer Portsmouth Partnership launched their “Shoplifting can ruin your Life” campaign at City of Portsmouth Boys School, Hilsea in October 2010.  Aimed at secondary school pupils, the SPP aimed to reduce shoplifting over the 2010 Christmas shopping season.

A free education and promotional pack was sent to all secondary schools and youth groups in the city.  The pack included a DVD, an introduction from David Williams, Chief Executive of Portsmouth City Council and a teaching/discussion plan.  All participating groups were offered speakers for tutorials / assemblies / group meetings from ex offenders, police officers and community wardens.

The DVD was filmed in Portsmouth in August using young people from Learning Links, am dram group Portsmouth Players, local police officers and members of staff from the Southern Co-operative in Northern Parade and Islamabad Brunel Road.

Following the campaign, shoplifting by young people fell by a staggering 76% in the run up to Christmas! See here for more details.
